Falling from a Dream – Icarus

falling from a dream – Icarus is one of two interactive installations created for the Room for Wonder exhibition at Groundseesaw, Seoul. Inspired by the Greek myth of Daedalus and Icarus, it turns from dreams to failure and challenge. The story recalls Icarus’s fall: drawn too close to the sun until his wings, crafted by his father, melted away. His death left Daedalus in grief and doubt, questioning his purpose. Through this myth, the work echoes universal feelings of loss, hopelessness, and the quiet struggle to rise again. Greg Goya presents a crashed globe, filled with cracks and hollows, reflecting the silence of disappointment when the world itself seems to stop turning. He invites visitors to share their own downfalls by answering one simple yet heart-breaking question: What is your biggest failure? In turn, The Fall from a Dream becomes the artist’s attempt to understand whether collapse itself can become a form of creation.
